Petite Can Be Fashionable Too!

To all the petite women out there:

I know how you feel.

  • Capris don't fall where they should and they look like you're wearing your younger sister's pants.
  • You can't wear certain types of jeans because the bottom of the legs get caught under your shoe.
  • Long skirts are a death trap, especially in heels, which is sad because heels make you look normal height.

There's a solution to these problems, and you won't have to go to the seamstress for the answer.
Capris usually fall at that awkward above the ankle mark on most short people, giving the illusion that they outgrew the pants in 8th grade, but are still wearing them. As none of us want to explain to a saleslady that you happen to be shopping in the young ladies department because your niece is exactly your size, hence why you're trying the clothes on, let's get out of the junior's department. There's a few solutions that can save you from looking like a teen in her growth spurt.

                                                                     Capris
1. Old Faithful- Roll up the bottoms of the pant legs to just below your knee. No need for hemming.

2. Hidden Secret- Wear a pair of high boots over the pant legs to hide where the pants end. This helps a lot with not having to stuff a big pants cuff into a boot.

3. Layers- Everyone has a pair of leggings or tights in their drawer nowadays. They aren't just for yoga or wearing for your Sunday's Best anymore. Simply put a drastically different color legging or tights under your capris and you have a very stunning look.

                                                                   Jeans
1. Cowgirl- There's a lot of people who used to hate country music who are now dressing up like cowgirls. Use that to your advantage! Do you have any cowgirl boots, or any boots in general? Put them to use and wear them with your slacks. You'll look casual but with a twist. Plus, it gives you that added inch or two to get those hems off the ground.

2. Daisy Duke- I'm not saying to unzip your pants and let them fall to the ground, but if you have a pair of pants that can fold over at the waist, go ahead and fold them over a bit. That will pull the pant legs up.

3. Go With The Flow- If you prefer the tattered look, embrace the ripping. Simply take a pair of scissors to the end of the pant legs, cut right there you want the jeans to fall on you, and work the jeans a few times.

                                                                 Skirts/Dresses
1. To The Max- You don't have to envy the women who wear the maxi dresses anymore. Put on a basic t-shirt, a maxi dress, and a belt. (If the dress is too long, fold a few times at the waist, the belt will conceal it.)

2. Shortening- If you have a skirt that looks like it belongs in the beginning of Pretty Woman, you don't have to subject to that. Leggings help cover up all those bare leg that you don't want being oogled at by strangers.

3. Attention Getter- If you have a dress you can't seem to do anything with and it just doesn't look all the way like the finished product, splash it up with bold shoes. Light green dress, dark red heels. It's all about the contrast.

Begin Your Stylish Lifestyle Now!

We all have those days where we would rather grab a quick comfy tee and some yoga pants with a messy bun in our hair because it's not much effort. We justify going into public dressed down because it's a "quick errand" and we don't have enough time to look like a Kardashian just to pick up a few groceries and drop off a library book. I agree, there's no reason that a suburban, middle-classed woman should have to dress in a cocktail dress and 4-inch heels just to go to the post office. While we all want to look nice, we surely don't want to attract so much attention that people will think we work on the street corner. That's where I'm going to help you change everything. Just because we let our bodies get big, doesn't mean that we can't look good. I will teach you how to look very fashionable in an affordable price range, or even with the clothes from your own closet!

We will start out easy. Jeans, everyone's got their favorite pair, whether it's comfort, slimming, or you just find the look stunning. Make sure there's no muffin-top when you wear any pants, then you'll be forced to wear a baggy top. Slim-fitted shirt. This one I found at Wal-Mart for about $12. It's hard to see in the picture, but it has a translucent lace at the very top. Just put a pull-over sweater that's roughly close in color and you're set.
